I needed some time to decide. And by decide I mean pull my hair out for three days trying to whittle it down from 20. Here is what I finally settled on, listed in no particular order:
1.) 1960 Alfa Romeo 6C 3000 CM Superflow IV by Pininfarina
2.) McLaren F1
3.) Mercedes E500 Hammer Wagon
4.) 1928 Bentley 4 1/2 Litre
5.) 1990 BMW Z1
6.) 1955 Mercedes Benz 300 SLR Ulenhaut Coupé
7.) 1960 Ferrari 250 SWB California Spider
8.) Citroën DS (Series 3)
9.) 1965 Porsche 904/6 Carrera GTS
10.) 1970 Iso Grifo Series 2 7 Litre
Aaaaaaaaand that should do it. Though I must say I did flip flop on the last choice between a couple of different things... I really need a 20 car garage. And I didn't even get anything american on the list! If I had an 11th spot it would be a Hudson Super Wasp with Twin H-Power

Nice list. I keep thinking about making this list for myself, but honestly I think it would be easier to teach myself how to apply quadratic equations to theoretical physics with the goal of surpassing light speed and achieving time travel.

Ugh tell me about it. 10 is not enough! I started with a "short" list of 51 this evening... There were 5 or 7 that absolutely had to, and will always be, on this list. As for the remaining spots, well I could swap in a multitude of choices depending on the day or the week or the fucking moon cycle.

Oh yah. Had to go for the late model S2 with the redesigned front facia and 427 Chevy big block and "penthouse" hood.

Love it. The rest of your list is pretty spectacular. So many amazing cars out there!

Thanks! It was really hard choosing. But I think I'll be sticking to this list for foreseeable future as my "top 11". Though there were about 10 more that I would have loved to include as well.

Not to mention all the beautiful classics I don't know the names of and things I haven't yet seen. If I could afford it I would buy cars the way SoCal trophy wives buy clothes, unashamedly and without much discretion aside from "OOOH! PRETTY! I NEED THIS!".

Nice picks. But with the California Spider included a bit expensive.
But here's a reward picture for remembering to include the Uhlenhaut Coupe. The spark plug access hatch is a really nice detail in 300 SLR.

Haha that hatch is great! I'm a little surprised that you think its "a bit" expensive just because of the 250... The Alfa is a one off, as well as the Ulenhaut Coupé!

They are both one offs but that might keep the price down as there isn't any price history to raise the prices. I doubt that Uhlenhaut coupe will ever be sold by M-B but the price isn't probably the reason why they will retain it.
Couple months ago Ferrari Modulo was sold by Pininfarina to Mr Glickenhaus. It was pretty well known concept car so it would be interesting to know how expensive it was.

To me it sounded like you thought everything else was reasonably priced and then the Ferrari was like, "Oh! Woah! That's gonna take the list to a whole nother level." The 904/4 is over a million $, the Iso a couple hundred grand, the McLaren is over a million as well. And the bentley isn't cheap either.

Well not reasonably priced but California Spiders prices are now totally nuts. There aren't much cars in the same price range.
Z1 and DS are very cheap. 500E wagon cannot be very expensive either (but I'm very sure that they are still really rare). F1s are going well beyond $-million now (but Rowan's had very steep price tag). Bentley should be well under $-million. Iso prices are weird as very similar examples have been sold for really varying prices.
But I wouldn't be surprised if any California Spider would go over $10M (in the last year one went for $15M).
But I have to admit that I haven't been following 904 prices at all. But I'm sure that they are expensive. For some reason I like 906s but not so much 904s.
But basically I'm way too poor to dream of a 10 car garage. I would promise to settle for really cheap ones if I just would place to store them...

Very true. It is by far the most expensive, and I would argue not really worth the money (as any car in the same price range) but is beautiful as all hell. The terms of the original post were "ultimate" so I took that as "cost-no-object".
As for the 904 vs 906, the 904 is street legal, and about 20 were made with the flat 6 from the new 911 in 1965. The 906 was a better car with a reworked chassis/body that was less stressed and therefore stronger and more agile, but it's a bit too extreme for everyday driving conditions.

I think that some companies are making quite decent replica of a 904. It should be quite close to the original as very similar Porsche engine could be assembled from production car stuff. I haven't seen any 906 replicas though.
It's a shame that they didn't make (a lot) more California Spiders. It is very pretty car but pretty much unobtainable for nearly all. And really sadly they are too valuable to driven anywhere. And they are probably extremely fun cars to drive with.
I understand the worries of not daily driving $10M car but it's still annoying for the cars to be locked in a secure vault forever.
But what were the odds that a moving 2000GT gets flattened by a tree? It cannot be much more than my odds of winning in the lottery on Saturday even without buying a row.

Exactly. There could be a fire or tornado or bomb or whatever and then you amazing car is gone and you never got to enjoy it!

At least the 2000GT had fun till the end. But it might still reborn in some form.

I've always wanted one. Plus the Bentley Driver's Club is one of the best automobile clubs in the world. They drive their cars everywhere and have a blast while doing so.
